The Incident

Our client, a woman in her 60’s, was crossing a road at a designated crossing when she was struck by a bus diverted due to roadworks. She was more than halfway across the road when the bus, traveling the wrong way through the junction, collided with her. The client had no prior warning that any vehicles would be coming from that direction.

Injuries Sustained

As a result of the collision, our client suffered:

  • A head wound
  • A fractured skull with a brain bleed
  • Facial injuries, including lacerations
  • Bruising and soft tissue injuries
  • Psychological symptoms

She now experiences lasting effects, including:

  • Loss of taste and smell
  • Sensitivity to noise and head wound areas
  • The need for hearing aids
  • Tingling and burning sensations around her mouth and fingertips
  • Dizziness, memory issues, and difficulties with spatial awareness

The Case

Following the incident, our client contacted Serious Injury Law to handle her serious injury claim. Associate Victoria Martin and Chartered Legal Executive Katie worked diligently to build a strong case, ensuring that the defending party—the bus company—was held accountable.

The Outcome

Victoria and Katie’s tireless efforts led to the defendant being found liable for the incident. The client received a settlement of £90,000, enabling her to secure the care and support needed to move forward with her life.

Reflections

Victoria and Katie shared their thoughts on the case:

“We are delighted with the outcome for Rosemary following what was a very traumatic experience. The defendant bus company initially refused to accept liability, despite taking an alternative route not intended for the bus. After litigation commenced, the case was reassessed, and the correct decision was made. This settlement enables Rosemary and her family to move forward.”

Our client expressed her gratitude:

“We are more than satisfied with the professional service provided by Serious Injury Law. You have been both informative and approachable, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your services.”
