Case overview
Our client, a 52-year-old Delivery Driver and Warehouse Worker was driving home from a road trip around Scotland when an HGV collided into the rear of his vehicle causing serious injuries to him and his partner.
The client suffered multiple injuries including:
- T12 and L1 spinal fractures
- Sacral fracture and lower back pain
- Bilateral soft tissue knee injuries
- Cuts and bruising, including cuts to his scalp
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with comorbid anxiety and depression
He also suffered from a pain condition known as Chronic Primary Pain.
Impact on daily life
Following the accident, the client relied heavily on a friend for care and assistance, as well as his family. He and his then partner, who was also injured in the accident, unfortunately separated some months later due to the impact the accident had on them both. He also struggled to get out to socialise due to his injuries so became very isolated.
The client’s injuries prevented him from engaging in hobbies including walking, hiking and photography for a long time, but more recently, he has made some progress and was able to climb a mountain near his home. He has not yet returned to work but hopes to soon.
Looking forward
The RTA case was handled by Chartered Legal Executives, Katie Rutter and Victoria Martin.
Thanks to their expert support, the client received a substantial settlement of £120,000. The compensation will allow him to seek further treatment, including psychological therapy beyond what was arranged during the claim process.
It also provides funding for a tailored, one-to-one multidisciplinary physical and functional restoration programme to help manage ongoing pain and improve his daily functioning, supporting his continued recovery and future wellbeing.
