Our client ran a successful wholesale food deliver company and enjoyed weekly dancing lessons with his long-term partner. Whilst driving the company van, the engine began overheating and he was forced to pull over to the side of a busy dual carriageway. He opened the bonnet and immediately knew that he would require further assistance. He was standing at the front of the van on the phone to the AA when it was struck from behind by another vehicle using the road. The impact was such that he was thrown 5 metres along the road where he landed just off the carriageway.
He was immediately taken to the nearest intensive care unit where the extent of his spinal injuries was assessed. He had suffered partial damage to the spinal cord. Eleven days after the accident he was transferred to a specialist Spinal Injury Centre to undergo further specialist treatment.
We were contacted by his long-term partner after a recommendation from a member of the nursing staff at the Spinal Injury Centre. A meeting was arranged the following day at her request for us to discuss the options that were available. Our specialist spinal injury lawyers described our services in detail to Joseph and his partner and they immediately instructed us to work on their behalf and investigate the circumstances that had led to the accident.
Our accident reconstruction experts delivered a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances surrounding the accident. Within two weeks we had gained an admission of liability in our clients favour.
We secured substantial interim payments to support Joseph and his partner and ensure that his business could continue to operate. We appointed a dedicated case manager who completed a full assessment of the accommodation requirements of Joseph in the future. As a result, within 8 weeks we had made all of the necessary adaptations to Joseph’s home to ensure that he could continue to live independently once his hospital rehabilitation was complete.
Joseph has now returned home and with support from our legal team in the form of adapted technology and computer equipment, has returned to running his business, safeguarding the future of him and his employees.
