Millions defy seatbelt law

IT'S 25 years since wearing seatbelts in the front became compulsory - yet millions of drivers still don't always belt up.

Research has revealed 2.3million drivers still break the law, despite fines of up to £500 for not wearing a seatbelt.

In the UK there are around 37,000 fatal or serious injuries a year on the roads, many of which could be prevented by wearing a seatbelt.

Any insurance claim made by a driver injured while not wearing their seatbelt is likely to be reduced - even if they were not at fault in the accident.

The problem of not wearing a seatbelt is even worse when it comes to passengers.

Nearly four in 10 (38%) say they don't always belt up in the back, despite it being compulsory for 17 years.
