Doctors at Wrexham Maelor Hospital have been criticised by the family of a man who died following a spinal injury.
Hilary Gerald Kearns was admitted to the medical establishment after he fell in his garden shed and hit his neck on the side of planting containers, the Flintshire Chronicle reports.
Despite undergoing an x-ray that failed to display a clear view of his spine, the 64-year-old was sent home with painkillers.
After experiencing excruciating pain and a lack of sensation in his neck and arms, Mr Kearns returned to the hospital where he was monitored.
However, his family claim doctors sent him home again when he should have been kept in for observation.
Mr Kearns died the four days after his initial fall when he was readmitted to hospital and an inquest determined cause of death was trauma to the cervical spine, fracture to the cervical vertebrae, with renal failure and diabetes contributing factors.
A cervical spine fracture is a break in one or more of the seven cervical vertebrae found in the neck.
