Leaders in the field of spinal cord injury are to convene at the Paralyzed Veterans of America's Summit 2011.
Scientists at the convention are to discuss areas such as how to tackle pain and progress in multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments.
Particular highlights of the Summit are presentations by Professors Stephen Waxman and Jeffery Kocsis of Yale University, who are leaders in the field of molecular science when it comes to spinal cord regeneration, neuropathic pain and understanding of MS.
Clinicians attending the event are aiming to "hurry history", according to Lana McKenzie, associate executive director of Medical Services and Health Policy for Paralyzed Veterans of America.
"We all come to this issue from different disciplines, yet we all want the same thing: better treatments, therapies and - sooner rather than later - a cure for paralysis," she said.
In other news, a study published in journal Scientific Reports found that starving inflammatory immune cells could slow the progress of MS.
