IPads are being given to spinal injury patients at one hospital, in the hope it will improve their lives.
Spinal cord injury patients, as well as those with other disabilities, are being given the devices by occupational therapy experts at the Nova Southeastern University.
The department has purchased 20 iPads using a $13,000 (£8,000) grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
It is believed that the lightweight and portable design of the iPad will make it easier for spinal cord injury patients to use than a laptop or desktop computer.
Scientists at the hospital hope the device will give patients greater access to the internet, applications, social media outlets, music, games and GPS.
The iPad 2 is 33 per cent thinner and 15 per cent lighter than the previous model, no doubt making it even easier to use.
Owners can use the internet, check email, view films and read newspapers and books.
