Ross Jarman of indie rock outfit The Cribs has undergone surgery for a spinal injury, sustained after lifting around some of the band's gear.
The Wakefield drummer's operation corrected a herniated disc, which was pushing on a nerve.
In a statement on Facebook, the band explained that the complicated procedure involved moving the spinal cord.
Jarman now faces six weeks of rehabilitation and rest before he will be back to continue working on new material.
The band noted: "Things kept getting worse ... to the point where even just sitting on a plane became a gruelling ordeal, so the decision was made to have the operation."
In addition to the Facebook update, Jarman has been keeping fans aware of how he's progressing via Twitter.
Jarman actually sustained the injury a few years ago, but had struggled to schedule the surgery due to a tight touring schedule.
