Spinal and head injuries suffered by driver involved in Sheffield collision

Police are appealing for information after a 34-year-old man was left in a life threatening condition and another with spinal injury following a car crash.

A Vauxhall Corsa collided with a blue Vauxhall Vectra after swerving onto the opposite carriageway on Harborough Avenue in Sheffield, in the early hours of Sunday, July 31st.

The driver of the Corsa has been left with a head injury, broken pelvis and ribs. The Vectra taxi driver has been left with spinal injuries. Both are being treated at Northern General Hospital.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for more information, with the cause of the crash as of yet unknown.

Officers are calling for witnesses who may have seen the manner of driving prior to the collisions.

Another driver of a blue Ford Mondeo, who overtook the Corsa, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Last month, researchers from the Pennsylvania School of Medicine suggested that just a single traumatic brain injury could trigger an Alzheimer's-like process, even in young adults, underlining the potential seriousness of the Corsa driver's injuries.
