E-tool developed for spinal cord injury care

Medical researchers are developing an e-tool designed to streamline the care of patients with spinal cord injury.

Groups including the Indian Spinal Cord Injuries Centre (ISIC), the Asian Spinal Cord Network (ASCoN), the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and Livibility are working together to create the tool, designed to improve life for spinal injury patients.

The tool is to encompass different topics vital in the treatment of people with the condition, including acute care of spinal cord injury, clinical assessment of spinal cord injury, nutrition, occupational therapy, psychosocial management, sexuality and fertility and vocational rehabilitation.

According to the developers, in addition to physicians and surgeons, the tool can be used by nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists and other medical professionals involved in caring for those with spinal cord injury.

Meanwhile, a generous donation of $4 million (£2.5 million) has been made to spinal cord injury research at the University of Kansas by an anonymous benefactor.
