State-of-the-art hospital bed designed for spinal injury patients

A new hospital bed could improve the quality of life of spinal injury patients, according to reports.

Specialist health care bed manufacturer Nexus has spent the past eight years consulting with healthcare professionals in order to offer spinal injury patients the optimum bed, reports the Tewkesbury Admag.

The lateral tilting bed has up to 28 adjustable powered functions such as the pressure redistribution mattress system.

Nexus managing director John Robinson told the publication that "extensive research" was carried out and consultations were undertaken with clinicians and staff at Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Injuries Centre and Oswestry Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries.

"Involving spinal injury and trauma specialists in every aspect of the bed’s development was vital to ensure it meets every requirement and demand that will be placed on it," he said, according to the newspaper.

In other spinal injury news, a study published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery demonstrated that artificial disk replacement could be a viable alternative to spinal fusion surgery in some cases of spinal injury.
