Schoolchildren in Georgia, USA have been learning about how best to prevent brain and spinal cord injury.
Experts from the Shepherd Center visited Campbell Middle School in Cobb County in order to implement a brain and spinal cord injury educational programme, reports the Smyrna-Vinings Patch.
The curriculum will focus on the psychology, therapies and long-term effects experienced by brain and spinal injury sufferers.
It is hoped the project will reduce risky behaviour in the students and lessen the frequency of serious injury.
The project is part of a collaboration between the Shepherd Center and the Cobb County School District.
In other news, children are often subject to unnecessary CT scans, according to new findings.
Research at the Children's Hospital Boston and the University of California Davis found that most children who have a CT scan to detect traumatic brain injury do not have the condition.
They said that treatment could be improved by allowing for an observation period in some patients.
