Motorists must give "full attention" to the road ahead, according to one expert, which could potentially reduce the amount of brain and spinal cord injury that results from traffic accidents.
Emily Moxon, spokeswoman for Brake, explained that driving is one of the most dangerous things people do on a regular basis and it is incredibly important to observe the law while motoring.
The expert also warned of the dangers of uninsured drivers.
"People who drive uninsured are more likely to take risks, crash and flee from the scene if they do hit someone. It is vital that we see action to remove these highly irresponsible and illegal drivers from our roads," she said.
This follows research from Santander which revealed that one in ten men who have been involved in an accident while driving said they crashed the car due to distractions at the wheel. One in twenty women admitted to the same error.
