E-learning tool 'to aid spinal cord injury treatment'

An E-learning tool designed to support the treatment of spinal cord injury patients is being developed by organisations around the world.

The tool will provide help to medical professionals in the case of spinal cord injury and encompass different modules to deal with basic and comprehensive management of the damage.

These modules will include topics such as nutritional management, physiotherapy, psychosocial management, sexual and fertility related issues and vocational rehabilitation in those with spinal cord injury.

Developed by the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, the International Spinal Cord Society, Asian Spinal Cord Network and Livability, the tool is slated to be launched at the International Spinal Cord Society's 51st meeting in London in 2012.

This follows the launch of an iPhone app developed by the University of Warwick which will provide anatomy classes to medical students anywhere in the world.

Peter Abrahams, professor of clinical anatomy at the institute, has broken down his lessons into bite-sized chunks for the app, which is called Aspects of Anatomy.
