A group of sports and business leaders have clubbed together and established a fund to support American football players who have sustained brain and spinal injury during college matches.
The College Football Assistance Fund (CFAF) will provide financial help to ease the burden of the families of those injured through the game.
It was thought of by college coaches and athletic administrators in the wake of the story of Eric LeGrand, a football player for Rutgers University who was paralysed after making a head first tackle during a game.
"It is our hope that the CFAF will provide much-needed support to these young men who suffer life-changing injuries through playing college football," coach June Jones, a CFAF board member told northjersey.com.
This comes shortly after Eric LeGrand told ESPN's SportsCenter of his hopes to walk again in his first interview since he sustained the traumatic spinal injury during a football game.
