A Scottish university worker has overcome long-term spinal injury to become one of the country's top archers.
It only took 46-year-old Norma Smith one year to rise from complete beginning to national competitor and she is now ranked fourth in Scotland for outdoor shooting and just outside the UK's top 50.
Norma told The Press and Journal that she gradually built up the amount of archery she could do while managing the pain.
"If you had said to me a couple of years ago I would be outside taking part in competitions, I wouldn't have believed you," she said.
"I have lost some weight, and it seems to be helping with my back pain. I am absolutely loving it."
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman has sustained neck, knee and spinal injury during a traffic accident in Flintshire, North Wales.
The accident occurred when the blue Peugeot 106 XL Zest crashed on the A55, near junction 33, on December 29th, although it is not yet known how the collision happened.
