Portsmouth girl travels to US for life-changing spinal surgery

A young girl born with spinal injury cerebral palsy is now able to stand up after life changing surgery in the US, it has been reported.

Keira Power, 5, from Horndean in Portsmouth travelled to Missouri for the surgery and will now undergo rigorous physiotherapy sessions to help her walk, reports Portsmouth's The News.

Her mother, Sally, told the newspaper: "We have both been overwhelmed - we didn't expect to have made so much progress in such a short time."

Before the operation, Keira could only stand on her own for two or three seconds and she is now able to take six or seven steps.

This comes after a boy made a miraculous recovery from a severe spinal injury he sustained during a traffic accident.

Micah Andrews suffered "internal decapitation" during the incident after a violent jolt caused his skull to separate from his spine.
