Cytomedix announces AutoloGel spinal cord injury treatment

A new treatment for spinal cord injury patients has been unveiled by Cytomedix.

The firm presented its new AutoloGel product at the annual meeting of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals in Las Vegas this week.

Designed to effect rapid healing of chronic wounds in spinal injury patients, the AutoloGel System is a device for the production of autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) gel.

It is the only PRP device approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use on a variety of exuding wounds.

Cytomedix president and chief executive officer Martin P Rosendale explained that pressure ulcers and other chronic wounds are a persistent medical challenge for paralysed patients.

"Our clinical data demonstrates how the AutoloGel System's physiologically relevant concentrations of PRP can rapidly restart the healing process in complex and chronic wounds," he added.

The meeting in Las Vegas is being supported by the Paralyzed Veterans of America association.
