Top spinal injury scientists meet in Las Vegas

Some of the world's leading spinal injury researchers and doctors are meeting in Las Vegas this week.

The annual meeting of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals is taking place in the city to explore breaking new barriers in the field of spinal cord medicine.

Supported by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the event is made possible by the sponsorship of, among others, Allergan Inc.

"Our 2010 annual meeting showcases basic scientific research and standards of clinical practice spanning medical treatment, rehabilitation and community living," academy president Dr Terrie Price.

"Professionals from the public and private sectors have an opportunity to learn from each other in our multidisciplinary conference."

This year's meeting will focus on advances in spinal cord medicine, patient care initiatives, evidence-based practice, ethics and new research findings.

One topic for discussion may be the recent news that Xenoport is moving onto the next phase of clinical trials for its Arbaclofen placarbil drug.
