A spinal injury research fund is to benefit from a gala dinner that will see host of sports stars in attendance.
The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, fundraising arm of one of the world's major spinal cord injury research centres the Miami Project, is to be the beneficiary of the 25th Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner.
Scheduled for September 27th, the event will take place at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel and is expected to raise millions of dollars for spinal cord injury research.
Some of the sporting legends to be honoured include the golfers Annika Sorenstam and Jack Nicklaus as well as Laird Hamilton, known as the greatest and bravest big wave surfer in history.
Miami Project founder Nick Buoniconti said it is "gratifying" to celebrate the 25 year milestone with such a special group of sporting heroes.
"Together, I am confident that we will soon find a cure for spinal cord injuries and that my son and others affected by paralysis will rise from their wheelchairs and walk again," he said.
The news comes after spinal injury charity The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation successfully broke the world record for the most wheelchairs in moving line.
