U2 singer Bono back from spinal injury

The lead singer of U2 is ready to tour again after recovering from a spinal injury.

Bono suffered a spinal injury at the end of May during preparations for a concert in Germany that forced the band to cancel a number of tour dates, including their planned appearance at Glastonbury.

In a video posted on the band's website, Bono said he is back after a spot of "German engineering".

"It wasn't a lot of fun for me. The injury was quite serious. It happened the day after my birthday," he explained to fans.

Bono added that being forced to lay on his back all day helped him to come up with some new songs.

The video message also gave thanks to fans for standing by the band.

Following the accident, Bono was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit at a Munich hospital and was treated by leading neuroscientists Dr Jorg Tonn and Dr Muller Wolfhart.
