A woman who sustained a spinal injury during a hysterectomy operation has overcome the resulting partial paralysis and won a kickboxing championship.
Lisa Clarkson's hysterectomy operation left her with nerve damage and partial paralysis in one of her legs, the Press and Journal reported.
She hopes that her achievements inspires other women to try to do things that they want to do but never thought possible.
Speaking to the newspaper, she said: "I am so proud of what I have done and I hope others will see that if I can do it, then so can they."
The 36-year-old told the newspaper that she became interested in the sport when she took her children to a local kickboxing club. She signed up for a women's class but said it was very difficult to begin with.
"At the beginning I could hardly lift one leg off the floor," she explained.
She has come a long way since then and entered and won her first kickboxing competition recently.
Earlier this month the Argus reported that Lauren Jones, who is paralysed form the waist down, has been selected for the Paralympics development team.
