Motor racing legend Sir Sterling Moss is recovering in hospital after he fell down a lift shaft in his home.
The 80-year-old Formula One champion suffered a spinal injury after he fell down the shaft.
In addition to a chipped spine, Moss suffered a broken bones in his feet, for which he is being treated in a West London hospital.
A malfunction caused the lift doors to open, which resulted in the retired driver plunging into the depths of the hole through a small gap.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lady Susan Moss said: "This was a very unfortunate accident.
"It could have just as easily been another member of the family stepping into where the lift should have been."
Both of Moss' ankles have since been operated on, with plates and pins installed to aid his recovery.
The F1 driver is believed to be in good spirits following his fall.
