Thom Evans gets message of hope after spinal cord injury

Scotland rugby player Thom Evans has been given a 'get well soon' message by a fellow player after he suffered a serious spinal cord injury in the Six Nations match against Wales last weekend.

"I want to send my best wishes to the lad in the hope he will be able to get back to the sport he loves and is so good at," said Falkirk player-coach Kevin McKenzie.

He knows a thing or two about spinal cord injuries, having suffered a crushed disc 13 years ago before facing the prospect of never walking again after complications during surgery.

McKenzie managed to fight his way back to top-level rugby - and the fact he is still performing today at the age of 42 is testament to his amazing recovery.

Thom Evans underwent emergency surgery after suffering the injury last weekend and reports suggest that he has opted to undergo a further operation on his neck this week before returning home.

The surgery is not believed to be essential but it is hoped that it will aid the player's recovery process.
