Thom Evans aims for full recovery after spinal cord injury

Scotland international rugby player Thom Evans has spoken out about the agony he felt when he suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a match against Wales on February 13th - but he has also reaffirmed his determination to return to the sport.

The 24-year-old told the Sunday Times: "I felt like a shot had gone through my body. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before."

He revealed that he briefly had no sensation in his legs "but then I started to feel almost like I was being crushed by something".

That pain, he subsequently learned, was caused by the dislocation of his spine.

Evans has already begun light training and is hopeful that he will achieve a full recovery.

In other rugby news, a young Leicester Tigers player who is tipped for the top has been told to rest after he suffered a spinal injury.

The Melton Times reported that Will Hurrell is likely to miss the remainder of the season but is not expected to experience any long-term problems as a result of the injury.
