A man with spinal cord injury is going to undergo a "personal challenge" in order to raise money for charity.
James Wood will attempt to swim from Dover to Calais as part of Aspire's annual Channel Swim event.
It is the tenth year the challenge has taken place and five other people will be joining him in the hope of raising £10,000 for the spinal injury charity.
Mr Wood, aged 38, was in a motorbike accident in 1990, which left him paralysed from the waist down and he will be doing the swim using solely arm power.
"My legs tend to float up towards my chest when I'm swimming, so I am going to strap them to a float to keep them straight," he stated.
"This is a personal challenge for me - I will be pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved despite having a spinal injury."
All six participants will share the 22-mile distance between them by swimming for one hour at a time.
Famous faces that are supporting the 2009 event include television presenter Dermot O'Leary, TV personality Gail Porter and Olympic medal winner Sharron Davies.
