The upcoming anniversary of Christopher Reeve's death should remind people of the importance of finding cures for spinal cord injuries, it has been asserted.
Superman actor Reeve died on October 10th 2004 after a long battle with paralysis, an incident that should remind the public to show compassion to people with the ailment, Peter Wilderotter wrote in the Huffington Post.
The chief executive officer of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF) - a charity set up in the Hollywood star's honour argued Reeve is "icon" who managed to bring politics, culture and science together.
"Five years after we lost Christopher, there are many reasons for hope," he said.
"The work of [his] foundation not only goes on, but in many ways, is stronger than ever."
Earlier this year, it was announced Christopher's son Matthew is to run the New York Marathon in November to boost the coffers of CDRF.
Benefactors are being encouraged to donate on the Team Reeve website.
