Spinal injury woman 'celebrates' anniversary of paralysis

A woman who was paralysed from the chest down in a motorcycle crash has revealed she is "celebrating" the 30th anniversary of the accident.

Melanie Davies celebrates the anniversary every year because she was told at the time that she would not survive very long, reports the BBC News website.

In addition, Ms Davies also met her future husband as a result of the accident, as he was the surgeon who treated her and broke the news of her condition.

She has now written a book about her life - Never Say Die - which also includes an account of her successful battle against breast cancer, with all royalties going to a good cause.

The couple now run their own charity and they are raising funds for a new state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre in Swansea for people with all kinds of conditions, such as spinal injuries.

In other news, national charity the Spinal Injuries Association is set to hold a fundraising event known as the Great British Fish and Chip Supper on May 21st, when people are encouraged to enjoy the iconic meal while each guest makes a donation of £5.
