A man who sustained a spinal injury when he was tackled during a rugby match has said how getting back into the game as a coach has given him a more positive outlook on life.
Today is the eighteenth anniversary of the day that Alan Evans sustained a spinal injury that left him unable to run or walk again, the Shropshire Star reported.
Speaking to the newspaper, he said that he attempted suicide at one point but has recently turned his pessimistic thoughts into a focus on rugby.
Mr Evans now plays for the Birmingham Bandits wheelchair rugby team and recently completed a level one rugby coaching course.
"I understand and can read a match, and after rugby has given me such a lot in my life, I would like to put something back into the game," Mr Evans told the newspaper.
Earlier this month, Mr Evans was awarded a Certificate of Achievement at the half-time interval of the England v Argentina Investec Challenge at Twickenham Stadium.
