A young man that is paralysed from the waist down due to a spinal injury has graduated from university with a first class law degree.
Matt King graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in a ceremony held at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans on Friday, the Biggleswade Chronicle reported.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr King said: "I just try to get on with life, there's no reason I couldn't do a law degree as well as I could before the accident."
He told the Biggleswade Chronicle that, before his accident, he wanted to join the RAF but after suffering a spinal injury during a professional rugby game he had to re-evaluate his career options.
"In law, you just have to use your brain. I made some great friends and got to take part in all the normal university type things," said Mr King.
According to apparelyzed.com, a spinal cord injury support website, there are typically two types of damage associated with a spinal cord injury, known as complete spinal cord injuries and incomplete spinal cord injuries.
A complete spinal cord injury means the person is completely paralysed below their lesion, as is the case with Mr King.
