A spinal injury victim who raised over £1 million for charity has inspired a man from Ponteland to raise even more money by climbing a mountain.
Tony Hodson is to climb the 6,962m Mount Aconcagua in Argentina and is aiming to raise a pound for every metre he climbs for the Help for Heroes charity, the News Guardian reported.
Mr Hodson, 51, told the newspaper he was inspired by Major Phil Packer, who sustained a spinal injury in Iraq in 2008.
The army major received an Achievement Award earlier in the year for his fundraising efforts for the charity, which offers support to servicemen and women wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Hodson said: "I was amazed that he has done so much and not let his circumstances get on top of him and it made me find out more about Help for Heroes."
Mr Hodson has, so far, raised almost 99 per cent of his £6,962 target.
