A man paralysed in a car accident has overcome his spinal injury thanks to surgery in the UK.
Doctors told Aaron Timms that he had less than a ten per cent chance of being able to walk again after he was involved in a road accident, This is London reports.
However, neurosurgeon Karoly David and his team at Queen's Hospital in Romford repaired the 22-year-old's broken back by repositioning and freeing his spinal cord and now Mr Timms has regained some feeling in his legs.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Timms said: "Mr David did an incredible job. But we still didn't know what the outcome would be at first.
"I could feel a little pulse in a muscle in my leg. People were worried that I might be imagining it but I knew it was there."
He is now able to stand unaided after intensive therapy and is looking forward to the future.
Engineers in Canada are currently developing a sports helmet that could prevent spinal injuries that occur during head-on collisions.
