A girl who suffered a spinal injury in early life has defied doctors to become an accomplished basketball player.
Taylor Horney has just completed a full season playing for the women's team at Bessemer City High School despite having to undergo numerous operations when she was a toddler to fix her spinal cord, the Gaston Gazette reported.
Ms Horney stills suffers from back pain because of the disease and has had to undergo numerous operations through her life to correct her spinal cord, but is not hampered when on court.
Her mother Amy told the newspaper: "She begged (her doctor) to schedule every surgery in between ball seasons. And he helped her. She's really, really tough."
Meanwhile, Scottish rugby star Thom Evans has revealed he is making progress after suffering a spinal injury in a recent match against Wales and is now in light training and looking forward to returning to the field.
