A spinal injury sustained by woman holidaymaker when a train suddenly stopped has left her unable to walk again.
Mother of two Sylvia Brown was on holiday in Thailand with her husband when she sustained permanent damage to her spinal cord when she broke her neck in an incident on a train.
The couple were on board the Eastern Orient Express in Thailand when the driver suddenly applied the brakes, throwing Mrs Brown through the air. She landed on her neck and broke her spine.
She spent 16 days in intensive care in Thailand before returning home to the UK, where she is now in a wheelchair as a result of her injuries.
Mrs Brown said: "The train stopped with an almighty bang. There was nothing to grab and I flew up into the air and kept turning until I hit the floor.
"I was expecting a fantastic trip on this famous train, not to end up in a wheelchair."
Spinal injuries must be treated promptly to improve the chances of recovery, according to spine injury expert Dr Suzy Kim.
