Those taking part in physical exercise should warm up to avoid spinal injury, it has been asserted.
Activities ranging from taking part in sports to undertaking improvements in a garden should be preceded by a period of stretching, according to the Finn Chiropractic Group (FCG).
Shawn Finn, a doctor at the organisation, recommended paying particular attention to body shape and reminded people to put strain on their arms and legs instead of their back
when lifting.
"While we want to look and feel our best by taking care of our bodies, too often we neglect our spine," he said.
Other tips the medical professional offered included investing in comfortable mattresses and pillows for sleeping.
He also urged employees to review their workstation, pointing out regular breaks should be taken and foot rests and correctly-sized chairs should be a consideration.
FCG offers procedures such as spinal decompression therapy, a process which involves fitting patients with a special harness on a treatment table.
