Scientists researching spinal cord injuries have found a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet could speed up the healing process.
The study looked at rats' reactions to the intake change and speculated the same could be true for people.
It was carried out by Wolfram Tezlaff from the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries Vancouver, British Columbia.
Papers containing the data were unveiled at the recent Neuroscience conference, where delegates also discussed stem cell treatments and aspects of brain health.
The annual summit also saw attendees talk about how to make certain operations and techniques safer.
Commenting, press conference moderator Oswald Stewart from the University of California, Irvine said: "We are learning a great deal about how to encourage the recovery process and harness the plasticity of the nervous system to offer hope to spinal cord injury patients."
Earlier this year, scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles tested drugs which affected serotonin on paralyzed rats.
The critters were able to walk again using the medication, which could be developed for humans in the future.
