Spinal cord injury patients take part in adaptive ski day

Spinal cord injury patients are heading to the ski slopes of California today (February 4th) as part of an event set up by injury foundation Life Rolls On.

The second annual They Will Ski Again event is taking place at Bear Mountain in Big Bear Lake and skiers with varying degrees of mobility will be taking to the slopes.

Adaptive ski instructors will be on hand to provide training and assistance.

Meghan Schinderle, programme director for Life Rolls On, explained that the foundation uses action sports to show people what is possible despite spinal cord injury.

"We are thrilled to once again adapt snowboarding and skiing for our incredible participants who are eager and ready to hit the slopes, some, for the very first time since their injury," she added.

Last month, ex-Olympic skier Nikki Stone spoke to Success magazine about how determination and perseverance had helped her to overcome a spinal injury and go on to win a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.
