Spinal cord injury charity "very worthy cause"

Organisers of an upcoming benefit event have praised the work of a spinal cord injury charity.

US firm Rowell Auctions is to hold a fundraising night to boost the coffers of the Shepherd Center (SC), a non-profit body that conducts research and offers rehabilitation to people with back and brain ailments.

Participants at the bash on October 8th will be able to bid for prizes such as tickets for major basketball games, paintings and a fishing trip.

Commenting, manager for annual events at SC Cara Puckett said the group wanted to build on the success of the previous year's event, when there were "smiles all round".

Executive vice-president and chief operating officer at Rowell Auctions David Hart added: "This event is a natural win-win opportunity. Participants enjoy great golf and the opportunity to bid on world class auction items … while benefiting a very worthy cause."

Earlier this month, SC announced it had commenced the inclusion of new communication and control technology which is based on vision.

It said the innovation could "transform" the lives of quadriplegics.
