Spinal cord injury charity seeks ski volunteers

The Back-Up Trust, a national charity supporting people with spinal cord injury, is asking for able-bodied skiers to help in courses taking place in Colorado and Sweden.

Skiclub.co.uk reported that, this winter, Back-Up is arranging four ski courses for individuals with spinal cord injury.

The courses in Winter Park, Colorado in February and March require volunteers who are experienced skiers but the courses in Are, Sweden, in January will suit skiers of all standards, according to the website.

Back-Up is asking volunteer skiers to assist instructors on the slopes and also help the group with their ski equipment and transfers through airports.

Volunteers are asked to give a donation toward the cost of the course and Back-Up can support individuals with fundraising if necessary, the website said.

According to the Back-Up Trust, approximately three people every day have an accident or injury that results in permanent paralysis through damage to the spinal cord.
