Snowboarder Kevin Pearce, who sustained a spinal injury in December, is continuing to make a good recovery and has been transferred to another hospital that specialises in rehabilitation.
In a statement, Holly Ledyard, a neurointensivist at University of Utah Health Care, said that she is extremely proud of how far her patient has come.
"Kevin has made tremendous progress he is able to walk and do many daily activities with some assistance," said Dr Ledyard.
She went on to say that, when she asked the snowboarder how he felt about being discharged from the hospital, he replied: "Excited! I'm ready to keep on going!"
Mr Pearce suffered a severe brain injury when he hit his head on a half-pipe while training in Park City, Utah.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident which research published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal claims can reduce the risk of brain injuries by 35 per cent.
