SCI Research Advancement funds development of adult stem-cell treatments

SCI Research Advancement is currently funding the development of adult stem-cell treatments to cure spinal cord injuries.

Will Ambler founded SCI Research Advancement after he was paralysed by a spinal cord injury sustained in a motorbike accident in 1992.

The aim of the association is to increase funding for research into spinal cord injuries and to get patients out of wheelchairs as soon as possible.

Speaking to the American Family News Network, Mr Ambler said that the association combined a business contract with a research contract "so that researchers don't just get subsidised money to do what they want whenever they want".

He went on to say that the researchers have to follow guidelines: "To get money, they have to do what we want with results that we want."

Research that the SCI Research Advancement has funded has enabled paralysed lab animals to walk again after being treated with adult stem cells, the news provider reports.

Earlier this week the Times of India reported that a paralysed man had regained sensation and reflexes following stem cell therapy.
