A race horse owner is sponsoring the Spinal Research Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Race Festival on March 16th.
Andy Stewart, owner of the horse Celestial Halo, has close ties with the Spinal Research charity as his son is paralysed from the waist down following a spinal injury that he sustained in a snowboarding accident, the Press Association reports.
"For obvious reasons this is a cause close to my heart and a high-profile sponsorship seemed a great opportunity to increase awareness of Spinal Research and highlight the great work it does for victims of spinal injuries," Mr Stewart told the news provider.
He went on to say that he hopes more money will be raised on April 6th, at a racing legends dinner at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in London.
Spinal research is currently running a number of campaigns that aim to raise funds so that those with paralysis can be helped to walk again.
The campaigns include Ride Out, which aims to get paralysed motorcyclists back on the road, and Saddle Up, which aims to get paralysed horse riders back in the saddle.
