Rugby union star Phil Vickery's latest comeback from spinal injury has been described as "remarkable".
That was the verdict of Wasps boss Tony Hanks after the British Lions prop started his first competitive match after suffering a series of back and neck injuries, putting in an impressive 80 minutes against Cardiff Blues, reported Lionsrugby.com.
"Just to come back and play is remarkable," Hanks enthused.
"He's made of strong stuff and he's probably in the best shape I've seen him in since I've been back at the club," the coach added.
Former Scotland rugby union international Barry Stewart, whose own career was almost cut short by a spinal cord injury, recently told the Scotsman newspaper that a serious spinal injury need not spell the end for competing in rugby at the highest level.
Stewart went on to enjoy seven more years as a pro with Sale Sharks and Northampton after scans showed he had a compression fracture as well as "historic" fractures.
