Phil Collins has revealed that a spinal cord injury has left him barely able to hold his beloved drum sticks.
The former Genesis man told Rolling Stone that he now has to tape the sticks to his hands because he found that he was unable to grip them after undergoing neck surgery.
"My vertebrae has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing," he said in an interview with the magazine.
The drummer and vocalist said he will soon be undergoing more surgery and there is "a good chance" that he will gradually regain his grip over time.
One expert recently spoke out about the risks associated with activities which require the participant to repeat the same action time after time.
The Naperville Sun reported that Dr Pietro Tonino, an orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois, believes that sports people, for example, should mix the types of activities they take part in so that undue strain is not placed on one particular part of their body.
