London Marathon runner raising thousands for Spinal Injuries Association

A woman from Dorset is raising thousands of pounds for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) by taking part in this year's London Marathon.

Anne-Marie Kirby, 36, is ploughing ahead with training for the gruelling event despite the fact that she is suffering from a knee injury, reports the Dorset Echo.

She opted to raise funds for the SIA because a friend's mother is confined to a wheelchair and she said that, as a former cancer patient herself, she is well aware of the importance of receiving appropriate support.

Ms Kirby is taking part in the race with two friends, Alice Green and Andrew Roper, and the trio have already raised £3,800 of their £4,500 target.

She told the news provider that she was worried when she first discovered that she had the knee injury, but fortunately with expert advice she has been able to adapt her training accordingly.

This year's Virgin London Marathon takes place on April 25th and organisers state that, after this year's event, in excess of £500 million will have been raised by participants since it began in 1981.
