A footballer who sustained a spinal injury is now fit to play again, but was left on the bench this weekend when his team, Carlisle United lost one-nil to Swindon.
Earlier this year, Lee Peacock sustained a back injury and then a spinal infection, the Times and Star reported.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Peacock said: "After my first operation I could feel there were problems straight away in my leg and my back."
Around six weeks later the footballer's stitches "burst open" and his spine became infected, leaving him on an intravenous antibiotic drip for a week, according to the newspaper.
The 32-year-old, who grew up in Workington, feared he might never be able to play football again.
"It's been a few long months but I'm back training now and I've come off the bench a few times recently," he told the newspaper.
The fact that he remained on the bench during the match would have come as no surprise to Peacock: "I'm not 100 per cent yet," he admitted last week.
