Boxer with spinal injury on reality TV

Boxer Joe Bugner, who suffers from a spinal injury, has become the newest contestant on reality TV show, I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here.

The Hungarian-born former Heavyweight Boxing Champion replaced dancer Camilla Dallerup on the show after she quit earlier in the week.

Bugner has lived in Australia since the 1970s after public outcry over his defeat of Henry Cooper in 1971 forced him to emigrate.

"If I had known what the repercussions of that fight were going to be, I never would have stepped into the ring," he said.

The two boxers did not speak for 37 years until last year when they were reunited and settled their differences.

According to the Spinal Injury Network, the most common type of spinal injury is traumatic injury, which can be cause by road traffic accidents, domestic and work-related accidents, assault, and complications following surgery or sports injuries.

It said that diving accidents cause the majority of all spinal cord injuries that are sports related.
