A baseball player who sustained a spine injury this season has to take three months out of the game but he will not need surgery.
Justin Morneau plays for the Minnesota Twins and reports this week said he has a stress fracture in his lower back.
He hurt himself when sliding into first base a few days ago but has apparently felt pain for longer - an MRI revealed inflammation and a CT confirmed his L5 vertebra was fractured, Pioneer Press relayed.
Morneau was quoted by the publication as saying that his doctor has seen this injury in a lot of athletes, who do not usually require further treatment.
"No running, but I can still the ride a bike and I can lift weights - but no squats or anything that puts pressure on the spine. I just have to let it heal," he added.
The baseball player is 6'4'' and has six years' experience as a professional athlete.
