Back to work testing criticised by those tested

New Employment and Support Allowance tests have been criticised for registering people with severe medical problems, including spinal cord injuries, as fit to return to work.

A Citizens Advice report revealed "grave concerns" over the number of ill or disabled people who have been approved as fit to stay in employment.

Society Guardian's readers who have undergone the testing added that the system is flawed, with one saying the test is the "most prejudicial, unfair and downright negligent piece of so called medical practice he had ever witnessed".

Another said that the benefits agency does not carry out the checks, as they are handed to a third-party provider, with one reader saying that they suspect the organisation has targets to meet.

The original publication by Citizens Advice Bureau claimed that the current test "isn't working" which, in some cases, is undermining the government's aim of getting people back into work. ADNFCR-2547-ID-19700010-ADNFCR
