Brain injury unit planned for Hampshire

A specialist brain injury clinic is to be unveiled in Hampshire that will be able to treat 12 patients.

The Southern Daily Echo reports the centre will be based at Kingfisher House in North Baddesley and will house 30 full-time nurses and support workers.

Individuals who have suffered a brain injury as a result of tumours, accidents, strokes, infections and aneurisms will all be treated at the unit.

Rachel Lamb, a senior planner in the Southampton office of planning and urban design consultancy Turley Associates, said: "We are delighted with this decision.

"The closest specialist brain injury unit is in Wiltshire and there is a real need for a dedicated clinic in the county."

A spokesperson for Dolphin Care, which is the private healthcare provider behind the rehabilitation centre, explained the location was chosen for its "peaceful" rural surroundings.

The news comes after the Swindon Advertiser recently reported the Disabilities Trust has been given the green light to build a brain injury unit in Dorcan.
